Dear MSBOA Members: We have a need for all MSBOA members to advocate for the arts through out the State. MSBOA asks that you have at least 10 active parents enroll by using the following link to gain valuable information regarding the happenings within the State Senate, House and Governor's office. This will help these parents better encourage our Legislators to solve the school funding crisis as opposed to delaying any solution further and causing disruption for our students' education in all areas including music. Please help MSBOA help you by directing your active parents to this link. We would also encourage you to go to this link, as it will help you to stay informed. Sincerely, MSBOA Please copy, paste and click this link: http://www.msboa.org/aboutmsboa/msboaspotlight/musicadvocacy/ |

Parents: Please plan to attend!Band & Orchestra Festival
Band and Orchestra Festival is an opportunity for ensembles from District XVI member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication, one of which must be from MSBOA's required list. The group also will be given 7 minutes to discuss two pieces which they have never seen before! They must then perform these pieces for adjudication as well! Each group is evaluated by three performance judges and one sight-reading judge. All family and friends are encouraged to attend and support these amazing young performers. ADMISSION IS FREE and there will be concessions available at every site with the proceeds going towards supporting band and orchestra programs at the host schools. ScoringEnsembles are rated on a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. The overall score is computed using a formula which combines the ratings of each judge. Ensembles that earn an overall 1 rating (or "Superior") are qualified for State Band & Orchestra Festival which is held in late April or early May. The basic structure of State Band & Orchestra Festival is the same as District, but the ensembles are held to a higher standard. Participating ensembles that earn a rating of 1 or 2 at District or State Festivals receive a certificate and are eligible to purchase plaques for display at their school and medals for each student. Dates and LocationsThe District XVI Festivals are held at numerous sites and over two weekends (March 5-6 and 12-13, 2010) due to the large number of schools and ensembles that participate.
